Hansil begins to operate automated refurbishment plant
On December 1st, Hansil Industries Co., Ltd. commenced operation their new container refurbishment plant in Busan after operating its old plant for the last 8 years under the premise of opening an access road to Kamman port as executed by the Pusan port authority. The old plant has been retired after a successful performance of 42,000 units of production during last 8 years. With the new plant in operation, Hansil will be able to provide enhanced quality with sufficient capacity for timely production to the customers.
Hansil was established in December 1990 as a container/chassis repair company, specializing in surveying and refurbishing in an attempt to bring some accountability to bear on its whole container servicing operation, which was mainly comprised of Hanjin Shipping, but is currently working to undertake certain operational tasks with world ocean carriers and lessors in entire shipping business lines.
The total amount invested in the newly dedicated facility was $4,200,000.
The new facility, situated close to BCTOC’s and PECT’s marine container terminals, is capable of refurbishing 30 containers (60teus), as 20ft, 40ft or 40ft high cube units in an 8 hour shift and is currently handling over 600 units monthly, around 100 units short of its maximum capacity. While the plant worked solely for Hanjin Shipping in 1993, Hansil diversified its customers afterward, and today includes clients such as Hyundai Merchant Marine, Choyang, and Maersk. Hansil is also hopeful that it will conduct some refurbishment work from other leading carriers and lessors in coming year.
The plant mainly consists of 4 phases arranged in a U-shape. The layout of the refurbishment line comprises automated airless, air, shotblasting booths, and a booth assembly for coating (primer/top coat)/setting/drying, and there is also a special booth for undercoating and an area for decal attachment, and all is controlled by 30 people.
The plant incorporates special collecting towers to prevent excessive fumes and dust escaping into the atmosphere.
In the meantime, Hansil offers container repairs in the ports of Inchon, Busan, and Kwangyang as well as at the inland depots of Kyungin and Yangsan ICD. Hansil also provides new container/chassis inspection and other ancillary services.
With Hansil’s entire IICL-certified 30 inspectors, surveying is now a growing activity both in Korea and, increasingly, overseas. Hansil inspects both new and in-service containers/chassis; to date they have inspected more than 186,000 units (G/P, Open Top, Flat Rack, Reefer and Chassis) during last 10 years. The regions they conduct new build container/chassis inspections are in Korea, PRC, South East Asia, USA and Mexico.
