Shipbuilding industry to renew in new year
The shipbuilding industry plans to reshuffle by departing from holding companies and changing logos.
According to the shipbuilding industry on December 18, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) planned to separate from Daewoo Heavy Industries last October and reshuffle its rebirth as new and independent company.
DSME plans to move into the KDB capital building from the Daewoo center where it has been since 1978. DSME has leased the entire building from KDB capital.
DSME also plans to announce a new corporate image (CI) logo from early next year, symbolizing its break from the Daewoo group. The new DSME logo will surrender the traditional fan-shaped Daewoo logo in favor of one more representative of it and its business.
An official at DSME said, "employees' mind, corporate culture and organization have to change with the new building and logo. Corporate planning for next year and streamlining will be confirmed on or around December 19 or 20."
Hyundai Heavy Industries decided to separate from the Hyundai group by the end of this year. If separated from the Hyundai group, its rebirth will leave it as a heavy industry group with assets of 11 trillion won with Hyundai Mipo shipbuilding as a subsidiary company.
Though plans are not yet settled, Hyundai Heavy Industries may be reborn as Samho Heavy Industries, an HHI trust company since October 1999. Hyundai Mipo Shipbuilding along with Hyundai Heavy Industries plans to convert the shipbuilding company from a repair company after changing its 1st repair dock into a shipbuilding one.
