The Port of Nampo, the leading trade port in North Korea, has been picking up since North Korea improved its foreign relations last year, reported the newest Chosun Newspaper, a Chosun People Association bulletin in Japan.
This bulletin reported on the "Chungnyoun Youngwoong road" (or "Young Hero Highway"), completed last October connecting Pyongyang and Nampo, that Nampo is being revitalized since having established diplomatic relations with several countries last year. It added that the harbor laborers were busy moving cargo and that trucks over 10 tons were often seen.
The Chosun Newspaper quoted from the product department in the Port of Nampo that Nampo has recently faced some changes compared with the period of economic blocks. It pointed out that the biggest change recently is the allowing of South Korean shipping cargo vessels in and out.
An official from the Port of Nampo said to the Chosun Newspaper that now he can feel the time is coming to cooperate and reconcile with each other rather than to continue in a state of conflict.
