Wan Hai Lines Holds Naming Ceremony for Newbuilding Accompanied by a Charity Donation

Wan Hai Lines held ship naming ceremony for WAN HAI A20 accompanied by a charity event today (14th August) at Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje shipyard.

The ceremony was jointly officiated by Mr. Charles Chen, President of Wan Hai Lines Japan Ltd. and Director of Wan Hai Lines Singapore PTE Ltd., and Mr. S.A. Choi, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries. Mrs. Irene Tsai, spouse of Mr. Daniel Tsai, Chairman of Fubon Group, performed the christening rituals, bestowing blessings on the vessel for good fortune and safe journeys. WAN HAI A20 is the last vessel in a series of thirteen 13,100 teu containerships ordered by Wan Hai Lines in 2021 and 2022 from Samsung Heavy Industries.

Upon delivery, it will be deployed on Wan Hai Line’s Asia to South America West Coast service, “ASA”. This series of containerships is 335 meters long and 51 meters wide with a draft of 16 meters. They are equipped with newly designed engines with environmentally friendly features aimed at achieving energy-saving and fuel-efficient advantages. The last three ships of the series, starting with the Wan Hai A18, are fitted with giant wind deflectors on the forecastle, which can help reduce fuel consumption.

In addition, all vessels in this series have obtained the “Smart Ship Notation” certification, which enables the use of various monitoring systems and communication equipment to collect real-time ship navigation data and equipment operation conditions and ensures safe and reliable maritime transportation services. With the complete delivery of the 13,100 TEU series, Wan Hai Lines has further strengthened its fleet capacity and competitiveness. Looking ahead, the company is scheduled to take delivery of 30 newbuild vessels from 2026 to 2030.

This will not only effectively enhance the company's tonnage but also sharpen its competitive edge. In addition to naming the new vessel, Wan Hai Lines has also made a donation to a local charity organization - Sungro Orphanage. This gesture aims to benefit the local community, underlining Wan Hai Lines’ motto, “We carry, we care”, as the company is committed to fulfilling its corporate social responsibility by providing quality service to customers and bringing positive contribution to the society.
