Masan presents high container cargoes growth in first half this year
The Port of Masan showed quick growth in container cargo handling during the first six months this year.
The Masan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries unveiled that it handled 34,000 TEU in the first half of this year, showing a 61% increase over the 21,000 TEU of the same period a year earlier.
This container increase is attributed to port sales and new trades opening as well as various strategies to deploy additional container vessels in trade routes. In the first half of this year, container vessels between Masan and Vostochny in Russia stepped into a new service while a new direct service bound for Shimonoseki expects to add more cargoes. The additional workload should leave Masan with around 80,000 TEU to handle by the end of this year.
Container cargoes in Masan have showed double-digit increases every year for the past four years, with 27,000 TEU in 1998, 36,000 TEU in 1999 and 41,000 TEU last year.
