Pusan maintains rank and reputation as world's third largest container port
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries revealed July 23 that Pusan sustained the third largest container port in the world, handling 3,797,000 TEU in the first half of this year, following Hong Kong and Singapore.
According to MOMAF, total import and export cargoes dipped slightly to 2,390,000 TEU, a 3.9% decline from 2,488,000 TEU in the same period of a year earlier. However, transit cargoes skyrocketed 20.5% to 1,348,000 TEU from 1,119,000 TEU a year ago, increasing total cargoes by 3.5%. Pusan placed third last year, passing Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
An official at MOMAF said, "Transit cargoes have been on the rise since 1999. We are planning to actively attract more transit cargoes from China to maintain this increase."
