Kwangyang offers 22% savings over Pusan
For shippers in Taejon and South Chungchong province, using Kwangyang rather than Pusan can save them up to 22% on logistic costs. According to the Taejon and South Chungchong local branches of KITA (Korea International Trading Association), exporting 1 TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) container box from Taejon usually costs 516,300 won in Pusan and 402,000 won in Kwangyang, a stunning difference of 22.1%.
According to this, trading companies in Taejon and South Chungchong can save 1.37 billion won on yearly basis if they export 1,000 TEU through Kwangyang each month. These savings are accounted for by low inland transportation fees to Kwangyang, wharfage exemptions, and lower container taxes in Kwangyang.
A source at KITA said, "The Port of Kwangyang exempts wharfage and berthing fees and allows a 20% discount on towing fees and pilotage. Using the Port of Kwangyang will be very helpful to shippers in Taejon and South Chungchong, as logistic costs for those regions are quite high."
