Car ferry trade in Inchon/Weihai/Shanghai sees favorable cargoes
Container cargoes in international car ferry trade between Inchon and China are on the rise. According to Inchon Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, container cargoes in the trade up to August recorded a total of 96,829 TEU, a 5% increase over the corresponding period of last year.
During August, cargoes were up 10% over August last year to 14,423 TEU. More passengers used car ferries in Inchon/China trade, up 4% to 47,341, however, the accumulated figures for January to August showed a 7% decline to 298,548.
Weihai enjoyed a 24% increase in cargoes from Korea to 4,654 TEU for August. It also saw the accumulated figures for January to August up to 29,636 TEU, a 19% increase over the same period of last year. Figures for Qingdao, however, declined by 13% to 3,646 TEU for August. It also showed a 5% decrease for accumulated trade until August, down to 28,765 TEU. Tianjin also showed a 4% decline to 1,674 TEU for August, and has received 12,499 TEU of cargoes from Korea in the January to August 2001 period. Dalian also showed 1,878 TEU for August and decreased by 14% to 10,770 TEU for the year to August. Dandong increased 11% to 1,131 TEU in August and showed a 14% decrease to 5,643 TEU in the January to August period. Shanghai enjoyed a sudden increase of cargoes for August, jumping 48% to 837 TEU. It also showed an accumulated figure of 5,238 TEU by August, a 9% increase for the period.
