Pan Ocean buys 660 TEU second-hand vessel

Jan. 5th Pan Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. announced their independent purchase of a 660 TEU container vessel from a Taiwanese shipowner on Dec. 21st. The ]vessel, the "M/V Pos Challenge", is 12,573 deadweight tonnes (D/W), 140 meter long, 11 meters deep, and 21 meters wide, serving a maximum speed of 15.7 knots.

Pan Ocean may broaden its Pusan/Tomakomai/Akita trade to a fixed-day twice-weekly service with the deployment this vessel in this trade from Dec. 30th, 2000. Tamakomai and Akita, main ports on the western shore of Japan, have been dominant in transhipment cargoes to and from North and South America, Europe, and Southeast Asia, but are now handling more cargoes in Japan/China trade.
