MOMAF pushing to re-model out-of-date harbors
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF) intends to drive for nationwide old-fashioned port re-modeling project within the first half of this year in a bid to build a closer relationship between harbors, citizens and the environment, as well as to advance productivity.
This project comes from the fact that more than a quarter of current port facilities were developed in the 1960's and 70's, and as such they lack the ability to cope with the changes surrounding ports today. Those ports are also suffering from a lack of potential space to expand, and are quickly encroaching upon nearby cities, presenting a host of potential problems. These worries are necessitating the remodeling of the ports in order to raise port productivity and obtain more space.
The main aims of the remodeling project are to, first of all, improve old facilities and upgrade total supply chain management, and secondly, to balance environmental concerns and overall city scenery.
This remodeling will maximize port productivity, while still minimizing costs due to low compensation expenses and no new construction being needed for the extra facilities. It will also contribute to citizens' quality of life by taking environmental concerns into account.
